| Wednesday Dinner and Clinic.
Each Wednesday evening a
meal is offered on an open door basis at and in partnership with
the Pacific Beach United Methodist Church to the impoverished members of the community. Food is provided
by Pacific Beach churches, agencies and businesses. A loyal complement
of volunteers assists in serving. Some of the volunteers are from the homeless community. There is an
opportunity to sign up to and receive clinical services: medical, dental,
and acupuncture, all provided in partnership with local medical schools. Our goal is not only to
feed the hungry and restore their health, but also to build a community of trust which can be the
basis for the rehabilitation of lives. We currently feed 150 homeless persons each week.

Advocacy
A step toward constructive living is the opportunity among homeless citizens
for a legal clean slate. Sometimes the
punitive consequences of being homeless
includes harassment and jail. We facilitate
an effort for our guests/client to clear
up unresolved legal issues, freeing them
from fear and the feeling of unworthiness.
Our advocacy includes access to the
justice system and offers some hope of moving lives in a positive direction. Should community
service be required for restitution for misdemeanors or warrants, wellness training
and preventative practices classes and health screening are offered.

Especially for
Women.
Twice each week our door
is open to homeless women. After
an optional meal and shower, sessions
include group therapy with follow-up
counseling, fitness and relaxation
classes, self defense, cooking and crafts,
job readiness. Hygiene and other personal items are available. Occasionally the
women may enjoy lunch in a nearby
restaurant. The program design is directed by the women who attend.

Job Training.
All of the stipend-paid employees of WDF are either
currently homeless, have experienced homelessness, and/or are on the brink of becoming homeless. In most cases, the small stipend that our
organization is able to provide is the only source of income for these part-time workers. The experience and self-confidence gained
through association with WDF has the potential of leading to market-rate, full-time employment.
